'Bolivian Queen' Salinas Has Title Bout, Documentary in Works!

Manassas, VA super bantamweight "The Bolivian Queen" Jennifer Salinas has been very busy of late in and out of the ring.  Salinas, who is of Bolivian ancestry and lived in the country as a young lady, has made numerous charitable donations of boxing equipment to Bolivian boxers.  Now, those boxers will have an opportunity to see her fight live.

On Saturday, September 14, Salinas (14-3, four KO's) will battle Yolis Marrugo Franco of Cartagena, Colombia (15-8-3, seven KO's) for the vacant WBF (World Boxing Federation) Super Bantamweight title in Santa Cruz, Bolivia.  Salinas won a six-round unanimous decision over DJ Morrison on March 30 in DC in her last outing. This is Salinas's second try at a world title -- she lost a 10-round unanimous decision to Jackie Nava for the interim WBC Super Bantamweight title in Mexico in November of 2010.  Franco has not fought since winning a six-round decision over Olga Salas on September 8 in Cartagena.

If Salinas wins, she will be the fourth female Beltway Boxer to win a world title joining Isra Girgrah Wynn, Lisa Foster Cohen (both super featherweights) and current WIBA Middleweight champion Tori Nelson.

Also, Salinas is one of the subjects of a new documentary entitled "Our Fight."  The film, produced by local filmmaker Marco Sanzetenea and directed by Sergio Bastani, compares and contrasts Salinas and a young Bolivian amateur named Elias Roca and their struggles to succeed in the sport.  The film has been completed and plans are being made to show the film in festivals around the world.

Here is a trailer for the film:
