The Russell Brothers have started their quest to win historic National Golden Gloves titles in Las Vegas, NV.
On Monday night, Gary Antonio Russell started his defense of his 123-pound title by defeating Marcel Davdison of the Kansas City region while Gary Antuanne Russell won his first bout at 141 pounds with a victory over Anthony Buckley of the Kansas-Oklahoma region.
At 165 pounds, Tavon Body lost his opening round contest to Shakeem Hodge of Pennsylvania. Also Darnell Price II, who is representing the DC region from North Carolina, won his contest at 201 pounds over Arkeem Kirk of Detroit.
Two other notable wins from boxers who got their start in the Beltway area, Marquis Moore, a native of Fort Washington, MD who is fighting out of the Colorado-New Mexico region, is looking for his second straight national title and he defeated Calvin Metcalf of Kansas City. Also, Hasim Rahman, Jr. of Nevada won his first bout at 201 pounds defeating Ryan Riley of the Mid-South region.
