It was not only a tough night for locals at Westminster, MD Friday night (where only one Beltway Boxer -- Jeremy "The Truth" Trussell -- won his bout), it was a brutal night for locals in different locations around the country.
The only winner of the night was Cornelius "The Bodysnatcher" Whitlock of DC who needed just 35 seconds to stop Luis Hernandez of San Bernadino, CA at the Edgewater Casino in Laughlin, NV According to reports, Whitlock landed a picture-perfect right hand that stiffened Hernandez. Whitlock remains undefeated at 3-0-2, two KO's. Hernandez is 2-7.
In one of the featured televised bouts on that card, DC lightweight "Unbelievable" Samuel Neequaye was stopped in the second round by Fernando Carcamo of Mexico in the first round of the Boxcino Lightweight Tournament. Carcamo dropped Neequaye in the first round and finished the job at 1:58 of the second. For Neequaye, it was his first pro loss and he is now 21-1, 15 KO's. Carcamo is now 16-5, 13 KO's.
Meanwhile at Dover Downs Casino in Dover, DE, Baltimore cruiserweight Travis Reeves fought to a six-round majority draw against Kamarah Pasley of Philadelphia, PA. According to noted boxing scribe Jack Obermayer, both men were very reluctant throughout most of the contest, however Reeves did have Pasley hurt in the fifth round. Reeves did win one scorecard by a 58-56 score but two other judges scored the bout a draw at 57-57.
Reeves is now 3-2-1, one KO while Pasley is 6-6-2, two KO's.
At the Twin River Event Center in Lincoln, RI, DC cruiserweight Andre Ward was stopped by Alvin "Iron Majik" Varmall, Jr. of LaPlace, LA in the third round. The bout was stopped with one second remaining in the third round.
