Baltimore, MD junior welterweight Emmanuel "Tranzformer" Taylor will try to bounce back from his recent loss to face Karim "Hard Hitta" Mayfield of San Francisco, CA on Friday, July 18 at the Paramount Theatre in Huntington, NY. The bout will be the main event on ESPN2's Friday Night Fights.
The Paramount Theatre was the site of the last loss for Taylor (17-2, 12 KO's) -- a 10-round unanimous decision to Chris Algeri on February 14. This will be Taylor's fourth straight time on national television -- his third on ESPN2 and once on Showtime. Mayfield (18-1-1, 10 KO's) will also look to bounce back from a loss. Mayfield lost a 10-round unanimous decision to Thomas Dulorme for the vacant NABF Junior Welterweight title on March 29 in Atlantic City.
If the schedule holds up, Beltway Boxers will be on national television on three consecutive Fridays -- July 18, July 25 and August 1. The question mark is the July 25 ShoBox show scheduled to feature Antoine Douglas, Jerry Odom, Alantez Fox and possibly Cecil McCalla. The only real question seems to be where the card will take place.
Then on August 1, Thomas Williams will be on ESPN2 against Gabriel Campillo in a 12-round contest from the Little Creek Casino Resort in Shelton, WA.
