Williams Faces Former World Champ Campillo August 1 in Shelton, WA!

NABO Light Heavyweight champion Thomas "Top Dog" Williams, Jr. of Fort Washington, MD will have a big bout coming up when he takes on former WBA Light Heavyweight champion Gabriel "El Chico Guapo" Campillo of Madrid, Spain on Friday, August 1 at the Little Creek Casino Resort in Shelton, WA.

The bout will be the main event on ESPN2's Friday Night Fights and it will be the first 12-round contest for the undefeated Williams (17-0, 12 KO's), who is ranked sixth by the WBO, ninth by the IBF and 10th by the WBC.

This will also be the fifth straight time Williams has competed on national television with the last three times on ESPN (Williams has also appeared on Showtime Extreme and Fox Sports 1.) Williams scored back-to-back knockouts in his last two appearances on ESPN.  In his last outing, Williams scored a third-round knockout of Enrique Ornelas on April 24 in Rancho Mirage, CA.  Williams won his NABO title on January 24 at the Little Creek Casino Resort with a wild first-round TKO over Cornelius White in the contest where both men were knocked down in that round.

Campillo (23-6-1, 10 KO's) won the WBA Light Heavyweight title in June of 2009 with a 12-round majority decision over Hugo Hernan Gray in Argentina.  Campillo would lose the title to Beibut Shumenov in January 2010 by 12-round split decision in Las Vegas, NV.  In his last contest, Campillo scored a seventh-round TKO over Ricky Dennis Pow on May 9 in the Canary Islands.  That was Campillo's first bout since suffering a ninth-round TKO loss to recent world title challenger Andrzej Fonfara on August 16 in Chicago, IL.
